For reluctant writers, introduce novel or unexpected materials and supports. Try old typewriters, novelty or colored pencils, voice-activated software or story starters.

“Signs” of Effective Collaboration

I just spent a few days with teachers in Colorado. The workshop was on collaboration and co-teaching and we talked a lot about conducting effective meetings. For instance, we discussed having clear starting and ending times, following an agenda, assigning time limits to agenda items, starting meetings with the follow-up from the previous meeting, and minimizing interruptions. This last item is so critical today in a world of e-mailing, texting and multi-tasking. For this reason, I had the teachers create “do not disturb” signs for their classrooms or meeting spaces. I am sharing some of my favorites here:
